The Old West Never Read So Funny!

Ever since the death of Wyatt Earp, hundreds of books have been written about Tombstone and the O.K. Corral. Fans of the Wild West are in for a refreshing treat as a Scottsdale native and humorist, who goes by the name of RollerDoc, debuts his Wild West contribution which is a soon to be released Doc Holliday book called Still A Huckleberry from H.T.F.B. Publishing in hardback cover.

Still A Huckleberry is a hysterical collection of letters sent to major consumer companies, corporations, politicians, government agencies, and many other businesses under the by line of Doc Holliday. RollerDoc toys with corporate America by poking fun or often complaining about a company’s product and demands a response.

In one of the letters, Doc complains to Campbell’s Soup Company that vowels were missing from a can of Alphabet soup which he purchased for the sole purpose of teaching his young son how to spell. Not only did their Vice President respond with an apologetic letter, but also sent Doc coupons for free soup. Another was a thank you letter to the makers of Gas X for saving him from a potentially embarrassing blind date. In yet another correspondence, Doc warns New Hampshire motorists that he will be relocating to their fine state but suffers from chronicroad rage. Doc shrewdly decoys his road rage illness by asking the Governor where to get the best Peach Cobbler.

Still A Huckleberry is 224 pages of laugh out loud high jinks. Equally enjoyable are the responses by corporate executives on their company letterhead having to cower and respond to Doc’s verbal assaults. Doc even submits his ludicrous ideas via chicken scratch drawings to the marketing teams of America’s biggest companies. For example, Doc suggests to Ronco (as seen on TV fame) that they jointly market a new product called the Ice Cube Melter. Basically you take an ordinary ice cube and put them into individual heat chambers for the purpose of melting ice to any size you would like. Another letter is written to Gillette proposing his new idea of the Express Razor. Doc suggests that instead of the three bladed Mach 3; just have one blade but making the razor three times the size in length for a quicker shave. The idea here is that a man could shave his face within a handful of swipes (against the grain), and get an extra 10 minutes of sleep. That way, the 5:00 shadow would be replaced with the new and improved 5:10 shadow.

The book is filled with clean content and can be enjoyed by the entire family. Parents and children alike will bond together by taking turns at reading Doc’s letters and associated responses. One of the family favorites is Doc posing as a high school drama teacher and soliciting small town pet stores to donate two of each pet for his upcoming musical Little Noah’s Ark. The storyline is that pets in the neighborhood are saved from torrential rain storms and safely kept in a mini-van until better weather conditions prevail. One pet owner is incensed when Doc cannot assure the pets would be returned but offers a 25% discount on a 3” x 5” ad in the program.

RollerDoc claims this is the funniest Doc Holliday book ever written and often confuses the reader about what does this have to do with Tombstone history? Eventually the answer will crystallize. Perhaps one day, the town of Tombstone just may receive a letter from one of its most famous residents.

Excerpts of RollerDoc’s, Doc Holliday letters can be found on various Tombstone Historical Forums, Cruise Ship and Chit Chat style Internet Bulletin Boards, as well as being the subject of many AOL & Yahoo chat room conversations. Still A Huckleberry is soon to be released in bookstores everywhere for $27.95.
